Magical Stories
Skillful writing and magical themes highlight this fine collection of impressive stories. 'Isadora' delivers a different slant on the Salem Witch Trials theme. 'Twin Star' comprises a fascinating alien romance story. 'Eidolon' explores a different type of brother and sister. 'Thief of Dreams' is a tale filled with fairies and fairy rings and forest creatures and lovers betrayed. This anthology is well worth the price.

"Each of the four stories in TWILIGHT CROSSINGS pushes the bounds of speculative fiction in its own way, from an exploration of the price of foreknowledge, to giving the devil his due. This collection will satisfy any lover of thoughtful, provocative speculative fiction."

Ultrasafe: A Guide to Safer Rock Climbing
Published in Paperback by Preventive Press (August, 2001)
Author: George B. Allen
Average review score:

Wizard Tip Number One: Read This Book!
I was a novice climber when I met George Allen: George taught me how to climb. Along the way George also revealed climbing safety. He insisted.

What I recall most about climbing with George is that he was always consistent with his competent instruction. That consistency and competency carries over into the book.

The instruction included within "Ultrasafe: ..." is crucial information for climbers of all skill levels. In fact, even experts need to be reminded the fundamentals, fundamentals found within the text. The falls I have witnessed, the injuries, the deaths, were typically the result of disregard for safety fundamentals. How much is your life worth? One nut? A Friend? One more anchor?

Since climbing with George, I have applied many of his insights to my daily life. For example: Don't walk on ice with your hands in your pockets. Good advice, but how many of us walk on ice with our hands in our pockets? After rolling in the cholla I quit approaching with items in my hands. Sound fundamental advice. You will find more within.

I strongly recommend this book. The book is easy to read and the tips herein may save either yours or your partner's life someday, and they are likely to prevent injuries. Thank you George Allen for formalizing these truths.

Climb...and live
I have climbed occasionally with George Allen over the past twenty years. His approach on the rock has always been one of caution and complete awareness of his environment without ever lapsing into hyper-paranoia. This thoughtful, cautious approach carries over into this book. No one, particularly those making a transition from the climbing gym to the "real world", should rope up without reading this. Climbing safety is about a lot more than checking your knots and nut placement. Mr. Allen provides the first comprehensive overview of safety for everyone whether they are bouldering or climbing the Yosemite walls.

Don't Let Darwin Win - Read the Book!
I am not a climber, so when I had the opportunity to read Allen's "UltraSafe" I planned on a few minutes of reading per evening until it was finished or I just gave up. I opened it up one night and didn't put it down until I had reached the back cover. Yeah, some of the technical terms made whistling noises as they flew over my head, but I managed to catch most of the concepts. What makes this book fascinating is the author's overall approach to climbing safety. He recommends the climber develop a attitude of safety, or a safety culture, rather than just run down a checklist to insure some vital piece of equipment is functional or refraining from doing something obviously stupid. He explains how to encorporate safety into all facets of the sport without turning the endeavor into some sort of perverted govermental compliance exercise. The text has enough tech-talk in it to keep the attention of the hard core crowd but is written so well that it kept my attention (remember me - the non-climber?). The personal anectdotes make it real and the Wizard Tips ("Master" to the "Grasshopper" tidbits of wisdom) leave no doubt that this guy knows what he's talking about. If you're a novice climber, Read The Book before you develop any bad habits. If you're an experienced climber who wants to be around long enough to become more experienced, Read The Book. If you're an experienced climber who thinks you already know enough about safety, Read The Book. Don't let Darwin win.

Walking with Angels: Volume I: Aural’s Gift
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (June, 2002)
Author: T. R. Allen

WOW, what a story
I don't read many books, and when I do it has to be really good to hold my interest. This book was recommended to me by a friend. Last week I picked it up, and was reading it every chance I got. The story is captivating, it really grabs you.

Not being a reader of Christian novels I was a little leary, worried it would be preachy. However, the style of writing has me hooked, and this author has a fan for life in me. Anyone who enjoys exciting works of fiction will enjoy this book.

Inspiring and exciting
I found this book exciting to read from page one until the very end. Aural, the main character, goes through many trials throughout the book. She can see angels and demons, which ends up putting her into a bit of hot water... especially when the demons decide to actually interact with the physical world in which we live in.

This is an awesome Christian novel, but I wouldn't limit the interest people might have in this book to just the Christian genre. It is exciting enough for the average fiction reader as well... I would say this book would be enjoyed by people that say, enjoyed the Left Behind series.

I'm really glad that I got my hands on this book, which happens to be my favorite at this time. I'm recommending it to all my friends.

A wonderfully touching tale
Walking with angels moved me greatly and yes, actually changed my life. I find now that I can not walk down the street without wondering who has a demon and who has an angel with them. I laughed, I cried and and was touched all the way through. I'm certainly looking forward to the next book in this series!

Definitly worth reading
I couldn't believe that everything that happened in the book really happened to Mr. Allen. I am fortunate to own a copy of this great book and never get tired of reading it. I feel he is an inspiring figure to all future adventurers out there.

You can't help but worry about that wonderfully crazy guy.
Fabulously FUNNY. Tugs at your heart and keeps you on your seat. The man is crazy but entirely lovable. Throughout the book you root for him to survive that incredible journey.

I read this book in 2 days. I had to know what happened next and everytime I put it down I found myself picking it back up. The woman focused in this story embraces life unbeknownst to most of us. Why is the Stanley Cup in Mario Lemieux's Pool? How
Published in Hardcover by Triumph Books (01 October, 2000)
Author: Kevin Allen
Average review score:

WOW, what a cool book!
This is one of the coolest books I have ever read. Being a hockey nut, I just ate these stories up like no tomorrow. You don't need to be a crazy fan like myself to enjoy the stories though. The Stanley Cup is definately the most well traveled hunk of silver around and its story is still being written. The Cup means so much more that just winning and this book illustrates just how important it is to people and just how uncontrollably happy they can become when they raise it over their heads. One of these days, when I get my day with the Stanley Cup, I hope to be featured in a book just like this.
In general, this book is a unique collection of fascinating stories that have been compiled for over one hundred years. No hockey fan should be without this and I highly recommend it too anyone who is looking for an easy going and enjoyable book.

EXCELLENT
If you are a fan of hockey, this is a must! I couldn't put it down. One story after another, after another. Next time you see the Cup, you'll think back to all of the hilarious things the Cup's been through. Five star, double thumbs up!

WOW!!
What a great way to pass time between playoff rounds. Mr Allen had done his research. I can't watch Bill Clement without laughing so hard from his recollection of the Flyers Victory parade. A touching story is also included about Rocket Richard and his famed input on the Cup lore. Also a surprising and VERY sentimental touch of Pat Verbeek's day with the Cup in 1999. It's nice to see guys like him with even more reverence for the Cup.

Why Was Blueberry Orange?: Honesty (Camp of Champs)

Authors: Jeana Thomas and Lisa Allen Triefenbach
Average review score:

It is a book kids love and parents trust.
Champ of Champs is a wonderful, wholesome book for young readers. As a parent, I thought the message in the book is important. It teaches honesty and to value diversity. My kids loved the story. My 6 year old really identified with the characters and my 3 year old loved the illustrations. He frequently will set and look at the book on his own while I homeschool our oldest child. Camp of Champs is so popular in our family, it is on our all-time favorite book list for bedtime stories.

Camp of Champs: Why Was Blueberry Orange?
As a grandparent invested in seeing my granddaughter learn in a relaxed environment, it was a joy to see how much my granddaughter loved this book. The illustrations are exceptional, with vibrant colors and fanciful fruits gently teaching, in a simple but powerful way, the values of honesty and integrity. Faith loves this book and it is already one of her most treasured possessions. This is a wonderfully well written book, reflecting positive values through an enjoyable and fun experience. Looking forward to more!

The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (July, 1998)
Authors: Geoffrey Chaucer, Valerie Allen, and David Kirkham
Average review score:

great book
This is a wonderful book that gives the reader a feel for all social levels during the medieval times. I especially enjoyed The Wife of Bath's Tale. I recommend this book to anyone. It is interesting while being entertaining at the same time.

Very Insightful Piece of Literature!!!
Chaucer has given me a greater insight into life in the 14th century. We see the hypocrisy of the "genteel" people of the time. He has also transcended the boundaries of time for we can still see evidence of this hypocrisy in todays society. The Wife is a strong female character and the reader can not be certain if she is feminist or anti-feminist nor can they be certain if Chaucer is laughing at her or with her. This was a very crafty device by Chaucer's and he must be commended for it. This device is shown in how long Chaucer allows the Wife to speak about herself, it is the longest prologue in the book except of course for the General Prologue. The Wife's views and issues can also be seen in her choice of tale but her voice seems somewhat more subdued here and we can distinctly see Chaucer's own views and ideas coming out in the tale. The very poetic style in which it is written also intices the reader to read on. Altogether quite an insightful piece of literature.

It was lovely
